I have often been suspicious of real estate agents thinking of them as untrustworthy, arrogant and duplicitous. Our experience with Cooper Newman’s Chris Pataud couldn’t have been more different. From the beginning Chris was gentle, helpful and friendly. I was still wary for a while at the beginning as I thought of real estate agents as manipulative and tricky but I found Chris was always absolutely true to his word. He was a complete gentleman, a joy to be around and everything he promised was delivered and more.
There were extra things Chris offered to do for us that I wouldn’t have expected from an agent. He offered to help with buying a new house and when we needed to declutter for photos he even came around to help two middle aged women and an old man shift some heavy furniture! Way beyond the call of duty… Chris kept us informed throughout the whole process and tried to accommodate all the nuances of our family and situation. We were stunned and humbled by his kindness and thoughtfulness as he calmly kept my father’s welfare at the forefront of his mind.
When dealing with an elderly father selling up after 50 years I was quite worried that it would be a great strain on him but Chris steered what could have been a very stressful situation calmly and gently and gave great reassurance to my father as he was making this huge life change at an advanced age.
I would highly recommend Cooper Newman’s Chris but also the unusual process of the company not going to auction. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it seemed to be an excellent process. Both in terms of avoiding the frenzy of people traipsing through the house on designated days but also the stress of everything culminating in an auction on one day to make or break the sale and the price you hope to get.
Instead Chris organised appointments for people to come through the house from time to time one on one. All the time he (or one of the other staff) were overseeing the visit and discussing the person’s needs and interest in our house. It felt very respectful to all involved and gave the interested buyer time and the undivided attention of the agent.
Chris managed to get an excellent price for the house in the market and also managed to find people who were going to live in and enjoy the house rather than selling to developers who would knock it down. We were very pleased about that. The house had been a very happy home for my mother and father so it is lovely to know that another family will enjoy it in the future.
I would highly recommend Cooper Newman’s Chris. His gentlemanly demeanour, respectful attitude, kindness, trustworthiness and reliability were amazing and I will never forget it. If I were ever to sell in the future I would be calling Cooper Newman and Chris Pataud would be my first call.
The other staff too were very helpful, kind and business-like. Greg Cooper was surprisingly pleasant and helpful in dealings we had with him. I wasn’t expecting a director of the company to speak to me let alone be given time and advice in a kind and pleasant manner. Connor also was amazing in the help he gave us buying another property. Between Chris and Connor that second part of the process was made so much easier and less stressful knowing that we had professional agents in our corner when looking at house options and bidding at auction. I would have been TERRIFIED had I been dealing with it on my own with Dad but Cooper Newman, true to their word, sold Dad’s house and gave us advice and assistance in buying the new one. This was INVALUABLE. As we had great trust in Chris and the staff at Cooper Newman we were able to relax and let them support us. We couldn’t have done it without them.
Dad was so pleased with Cooper Newman that he has now decided to get them to look after his rental property as well. If people are trustworthy you like to stick to them. So now our family have an ongoing relationship with Cooper Newman into the future. Melisa Pettiford (the property manager) has not disappointed in her first few weeks on the job. She is confident, intelligent, helpful and on the ball. An excellent combination in a leasing agent.
I have enjoyed all of my dealings with staff at Cooper Newman but will never forget the wonderful Chris Pataud. He is one out of the box. A true gentleman. Thank you Cooper Newman and mostly thank you Chris Pataud for making Dad feel comfortable enough to sell his home and for supporting him through the whole transition. We will never forget you!!
